Gobi and his wife Imelda were saved in October 1991 at the Rhema Bible Church, Jhb and thereafter served 4 years under Area Ps Freddie & June da Silva & Snr Ps Theo Wolmarans of Christian Family Church, Johannesburg. 

Gobi sang in the worship team and Imelda was a cell group leader.  In 1993 they visited Israel with Ps Theo Wolmarans & his church members where Gobi had a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit in the Garden Tomb on the last day of the tour. His life was never the same again after that day.

• In 1996 they moved back to Cape Town where they are currently based attending Belhar Lighthouse Church, under Ps Bertram Simpson.
• They visited the UK where Gobi ministered in song at Kensington Temple and Ealing Christian Church London. 
• In 1998 they visited & ministered at the Love Center, New Jersey and First Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida USA. 
• In 2004/5 Gobi & Imelda spent 18 months in Nashville volunteering and ministering to the poor & hungry with Isaiah58 Ministries, Belmont Church, Nashville under Pastor Bill Ruff.
• A tribute song to Johnny Cash took him to Nashville, hoping to make in roads to the music industry as do thousands of musicians paying their dues in Nashville TN.

BIOGRAPHY
Gobi Martin, an ex resident Disrtict Six Music Icon, was born a Muslim in Cape Town. He has been a singer all his life, but not a composer all his life.  He won singing talent competitions like Star of the Year and Mr Entertainer in Cape Town when he was in his prime singing cover versions during the 1960’s in District Six, Cape Town. 

During that era, people of color were not allowed the privilege of securing music recording contracts so they created their own entertainment.  He sang cover versions of songs in nightclubs ranging from Al Johnson, Nat King Cole, Tom Jones to Engelbert Humperdinck. He also sang in live music shows like the Golden City Dixies as well as theater shows traveling around the country in The Black Mikado .

Gobi is an independent Gospel singer songwriter, who only started composing music in his mature years at 52..... however this uncanny ability, unbeknown to him was in use all his life, as he could entertain and do stand up comedy (unrehearsed) at parties and always be the centre of attraction!!!

He only started composing music after he gave his heart to the Lord and born again into the Body of Christ.  This event took place when he had virtually given up singing as a full time career.

When he ministers in song today he always allows the Spirit of Joy to spread amongst the congregation allowing people to experience joy, deliverance, healing and salvation.

The oppression of the Apartheid Era did not keep his creativity down and suppressed all his life, with the Grace of God Gobi found his true calling and uniqueness which he is able to share and allow others to enjoy.

Today Gobi writes lyrics and composes melodies at the drop of an hat. He has created 6 original music CD albums since 1993.
